Our Story

(An Article from the Heart)

Like the roots of the olive trees that grow in the rich Sicilian soil, our family has roots in southern Sicily.

Our product “Signora Pilato” (Mrs.  Pilato) Extra Virgin Olive Oil is named after our mother (Melchiora DiSalvo Pilato).    She was born in Realmonte, Sicily,  married her husband Cologero (Charlie) (a Sicilian from her hometown living in America) and moved to America.

The name Melchiora is a rare name.  The name originates from name of Melchior.  One of the three wise men from Bible.  Its meaning is “God is my light”.

Once she moved to America, some of her relatives started calling her Millie.  Much shorter and easier to remember than Melchiora.

Our mother was an artist at heart.   Whether she was cooking, sewing or decorating, her work had artistry.  She even made wedding dresses. Our mother was known for her culinary skills that multiple restaurants and chefs asked for her recipes.   She held highs standards, was an exacting cook and she knew GOOD OLIVE OIL!

The photo used on the bottle is of our mother at approximately age 21, prior to her marriage.  Due to her beauty, people wanted to use this photo on a wine bottle.  Her father would not allow this because following the norms of the time it was deemed inappropriate.

In loving memory, we put the photo on our bottle of premium organic extra virgin olive oil from her home town of Realmonte, Sicily.
